Many couples getting married today are choosing to have their ceremony in places other than churches – wedding venues, beaches, lakes, camps…I even hiked a mile into a beautiful state forest to marry a couple in a wonderful spot hidden away!
So wherever your wedding is, you have many choices for your ceremony. You don’t need to have a boilerplate ceremony that comes from a book; you can have a perfect ceremony that speaks to you as individuals and as a couple! But where to begin?
Below is an outline that I use with couples to begin planning the ceremony. You decide which elements you wish to include. In my following posts, I will talk about the many sections in a ceremony, and begin talking about extras, like rituals. Common rituals include the Unity Candle, Sand or Rose Ceremonies. Uncommon ones include Hand Fasting, Tying the Knot and Wine Box Ceremonies. I’ll also tell you about some really fun rituals that the couple and I created just for them!
Let’s begin with this outline:
· The Procession
· The Welcome
· Opening Blessing
· Presentation of the Bride
· Charge to the Couple
· Declaration of Intent (the “I do” part)
· Marriage Vows
· Ring Ceremony (blessing of the rings and the exchange)
· Pronouncement and Kiss
· Closing Blessing
