Your Wedding Ceremony
My desire is to give you the wedding that you have always dreamed of. When I create your ceremony, it will be truly one of a kind – made just for you. It will be carefully crafted to meet you and your fiancé’s personalities, as well as your hopes, dreams, and desires for your marriage. Some ceremonies I create are long, some are short. Some are humorous – others reverent.
We begin the process with a questionnaire – a questionnaire that will challenge you to dig into the qualities of your relationship – and in your own words you tell me what makes you different from all the other couples out there getting married. Then we meet. Sometimes it takes an hour – sometimes two. We laugh, we joke, we dig, dig, dig until I finally understand the essence of this thing – this life that is happening between you – this journey that will be your union, your one life.
As we discuss your relationship, we begin putting together the ceremony itself. Usually I start with a traditional format, including all the elements such as procession, the welcome, give-away, address, intent, ring exchange, vows, etc. We’ll take these sections one by one and develop each to your preference. We’ll decide where we’ll be traditional and where we’ll get more personalized.
The language I use in the ceremony is that which would naturally come from your beliefs and experience. So whatever your thoughts and opinions on marriage, those will be communicated in your ceremony. Everything is written with you in mind.
After our meeting, I write up the ceremony – and once I have a solid first draft, I’ll send it to you for review and edits. Most often, it takes a few small edits to make it perfect – though some have accepted my first draft as is – while others have had up to 6 re-writes!
I then accompany you at the rehearsal, officiate your ceremony, and deliver the marriage license to City Hall.
And then….you’ll be married!
One more thing! I’ve met so many fun and interesting people, and to have you in and out of my life so quickly made me a little sad! To work with you so closely and walk away forever just doesn’t feel right!
For that reason, I host a private New Year’s Commitment Ceremony each year for the couples that I marry. Marriages have a lifetime of rewarding moments – but as we all know, they are also a lot of hard work– so I hold this ceremony to offer support along the way – something special to help keep you happy and cozy, moment by moment, for forever.
The ceremony takes place each year on the Sunday following New Year’s Day. Please visit the 2018 Commitment Ceremony page for pictures and videos.
